Jess started volunteering for Everybody Dance Now! as a high school sophomore in 2009, and in the years since she has served and lead the organization in a variety of capacities, including as EDN!’s Executive Director and the Chapter Director of our flagship chapter in Santa Barbara, CA. In partnership with EDN!’s founder Jackie Rotman, Jess worked to expand Everybody Dance Now! nationally, recruiting and training other young people to launch chapters of the organization in their own communities.
Today, Jess continues to support EDN! as the organization’s Vice Chair. She currently works for the Tobin Project, a nonprofit research organization that collaborates with social scientists to facilitate new research on pressing problems facing American democracy over the long term. In this role, Jess helps to lead Tobin’s democracy and regulation research initiatives. In 2016, Jess graduate magna cum laude from Claremont McKenna College, where she graduated with honors in both Government and Philosophy, Politics, & Economics (PPE) and was awarded the Government Department’s award for the best senior thesis. On campus, Jess also worked as a Consultant for SOURCE Nonprofit Consulting and as a Writing Consultant at the Center for Writing and Public Discourse.
Jackie Rotman founded Everybody Dance Now! in 2005 and serves as its Board Chair today. Currently, Jackie is a concurrent MBA student at Stanford Graduate School of Business and MPA student at Harvard Kennedy School. She previously obtained a BA with University Distinction in Public Policy from Stanford University.
Previously, Jackie was an Associate Consultant at The Bridgespan Group. From 2014 to 2016, she served as Executive Director of Spark, mobilizing thousands of Millennials as philanthropists and advocates for gender equality and women and girls’ empowerment. Jackie has trained hundreds of nonprofit and business executives on effective Millennial engagement – speaking at or keynoting events including Stanford’s Nonprofit Management Institute Intensive, Women’s Funding Network Annual Conference, SOCAP, and Council on Foundations.
Jackie has also spoken at TEDx Stanford, Nexus at the United Nations, EDGE Up conference on social emotional learning, Ashoka Future Forum, and more. She has been recognized as Glamour Magazine's Top Ten College Women, Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce’s Young Businessperson of the Year, and a Google’s Zeitgeist Young Mind.
Adesola Osakalumi is an award-winning actor, choreographer, singer, and dancer whose talents have garnered him successes in film, television, and on Broadway. He is perhaps best recognized as a lead in the National Tour of the Broadway hit musical FELA!, which won three Tony Awards in 2010. To rave reviews, Adesola was the lead during the musical’s first national tour as well as when it returned to Broadway the following summer. He has the distinction of having co-created and co-directed the Off-Broadway hit Jam on the Groove, the first ever hip hop theater production. It received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Best Choreography. Adesola is also co-founder of the legendary GhettOriginal Productions Dance Company. His work has earned him a Bessie Award, a Drama Desk Award nomination, and funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Adesola also teaches and lectures about his craft at places as distinct as the Urban Assembly of Music and Art in Brooklyn, the International TANZWOCHEN in Vienna, The Bronx Lab School, OBS in Taiwan, and the Artcaval Festival in Paris. In leadership, Adesola has served as Artistic Director for Hip Hop Kung Fu at The Asia Society (featuring hip hop artists from Japan, China, and the US), a Board Member of Dancing in the Streets, and has been a choreographic mentor for Pentacle.
Sophia is a Licensed Social Worker and the Midwest Regional Manager of Kiva, a nonprofit that crowd-funds micro-loans to serve the financially excluded. Previously to serving as board chair, she was the Founding Executive Director of the Chicago chapter of EDN!, becoming the fastest growing chapter in the organization's history. She also served a national role as Project Manager, helping the organization to scale its chapter model. Sophia graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Master's in Social Work at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. She is an Ariane de Rothschild Fellow at The University of Cambridge, a recipient of DePaul University's Doyle Leadership award and the Women of Spirit and Action Alumni award. Through each of her ventures, Sophia works to dismantle the systems that disenfranchise communities.
